This month, I had the privilege of attending the ISACA North Texas Monthly Meeting, an event that consistently serves as a hub for knowledge and networking for professionals in the IT and security fields. The January 2024 gathering was particularly enlightening, featuring Eric Peeters, a seasoned IT risk advisory expert from Weaver, who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “What AI Won’t Tell You About Implementing AI”.
Eric, with his decade-plus experience in complex technical environments, shared invaluable insights into the challenges and considerations that businesses face when integrating AI into their operations. His talk was a deep dive into the governance, risk, and compliance issues surrounding cloud services, a critical concern for organizations at every level—from startups to local government agencies to Fortune 50 giants.
The discussion touched on various types of AI, from reactive AI to self-aware AI, and explored the nuances of deployment models. Eric emphasized the importance of data quality, risk assessment, and vendor governance in the successful implementation of AI systems. He provided a comprehensive view of the AI landscape, addressing the current standards and the flood of new regulations that professionals must navigate.
As a proponent of continuous learning, I found the session to be an excellent opportunity to stay abreast of the latest developments in IT governance and AI application. The meeting reinforced the importance of approaching AI with a critical eye and a strategic mindset.
